IN EVERY DREAM HOME A HEARTACHE
In this series, I paired Dianne Ladd’s character, Marietta, in the film Wild at Heart with three primary places I have lived. I chose stills from a particular scene where Marietta is overthrown with emotion, smearing red lipstick all over herself in her hysteria, to act as reoccurring imagery in the three paintings. The vignettes bind the places with an overarching emotion and concurrently illustrate the advancement of time. Not one of these places is exempt from this emotion. The interior psychological space is pushed to the forefront almost violently. Contrarily, the shapes of the vignettes suggest that these are things the viewer isn't intended to see.
